Body of missing climber found in Maroon Bells

ASPEN — Searchers have found the body of a climber who got separated from two hiking partners in the Maroon Bells over the weekend.

Pitkin County sheriff’s officials say the climber was among three people who had climbed Cathedral Peak together on Friday, Hagerman Peak on Saturday, and Thunder Pyramid Peak on Sunday. Sheriff’s officials say the person descended Thunder Pyramid Peak well ahead of the others, who lost sight of the climber.

The others activated a personal emergency locator transmitter after being unable to find the climber.

A Colorado Army National Guard helicopter spotted the climber’s body Monday. The cause and manner of death weren’t immediately known.

The climber’s name wasn’t immediately released, but sheriff’s officials have said the person was from the Pueblo area.
