Body found on Orchard Mesa
The body of a 20-year-old man was discovered Saturday morning outside the office of Monument Ridge Town Homes at 2680 B 1/2 Road and is being investigated as a suspicious death.
A couple people living in the town homes discovered the body and called 911 around 9:30 a.m. Saturday. Grand Junction police officers and Grand Junction Fire Department personnel determined the man was dead.
The Grand Junction Police Department did not release the man’s name or provide any details about his cause of death Saturday, and the Mesa County Coroner had not confirmed the victim’s name or cause of death as of Saturday night.
No suspects were taken into custody as of Saturday evening, because officers were unsure at that time whether the man was alone when he died, Police Department spokeswoman Kate Porras said.
Police officers and Colorado Bureau of Investigation investigators at the scene interviewed numerous neighbors in the B 1/2 Road and Linden Avenue neighborhood, but none said they heard or saw the events that resulted in the man’s death, Porras said.
Shortly after 2 p.m. Saturday, a man arrived at the scene and identified himself as the dead man’s cousin. He told officers a victim’s advocate had called and told him his cousin was dead.
“I’m in shock,” the cousin said.
The cousin’s wife said the dead man had been at a birthday party with family members until 11 p.m. Friday. After that, she was not sure where he went. She pointed to a white car in front of the town home office and identified it as her cousin-in-law’s car Saturday afternoon. She said the dead man did not live in Monument Ridge Town Homes.
She said her husband’s cousin was not a drinker and doubted he would stumble and die by accident. She said he may have been seeing a girl that lived in the neighborhood where he was found dead.
She said the dead man had a “huge, generous heart” and had lost his mother at a young age. He also was someone who spoke his mind, the woman said.
“When he had something to say, he said it,” she said.
