Bradford to face ethics panel
House Speaker Frank McNulty, R-Highlands Ranch, is to announce later today that Rep. Laura Bradford, R-Collbran, will face a five-member House ethics panel.
The panel is to investigate whether Bradford improperly invoked legislative privilege in a recent traffic stop where she had been drinking, but was not issued a citation for driving under the influence of alcohol.
The panel is to be chaired by Rep. Tom Massey, R-Poncha Springs. Also on the panel will be Reps. Brian DelGrosso, R-Loveland, Jerry Sonnenberg, R-Sterling, Claire Levy, D-Boulder, and Judy Solono, R-Brighton. The panel could hold its first meeting as early as Friday.
Bradford has come under fire in the past week over a traffic stop after she left a Denver bar. The Denver Police Department reported that she had alcohol on her breath, gave her a roadside sobriety test, but failed to detain her long enough to gather further evidence to see if she was too drunk to drive.
Bradford has repeatedly said she did not invoke the privilege, a little-known law in the Colorado Constitution that bars lawmakers from being arrested or detained for anything other than treason or a felony.
