Bulldogs, Bruins winner in title game

One Western Slope high school football team will play for a state championship Thanksgiving weekend.

Hotchkiss High School hosts rival Cedaredge at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Class 1A semifinals, with the winner playing either Wray or Buena Vista on Nov. 24 for the championship.

Rifle, Delta and Eagle Valley also host playoff games this weekend.

The Bulldogs (9-2), seeded 10th in the Class 1A bracket, used a big second half to send second-seeded Limon back to the eastern plains with a 47-26 victory in the quarterfinals.

Hotchkiss won the coin flip to host the semifinals against No. 3 Cedaredge (10-1), which shut out Monte Vista 18-0 last week. Cedaredge won the regular-season meeting 21-10 at Hotchkiss.

Rifle (11-0), the top-seeded team in Class 3A, won the coin flip to stay home again this week. The Bears play Roosevelt (7-4), which knocked Palisade out of the playoffs 21-15 last weekend. Kickoff is at 1 p.m. at Rifle High School.

Delta went on the road last week and upset No. 4 The Classical Academy, so the No. 13 Panthers (8-3) return home at 1 p.m. Saturday to play fifth-seeded Pueblo East (9-2). That sets up a possible Western Slope Conference semifinal if Delta and Rifle advance.

On the other side of the 3A bracket, Eagle Valley (8-3) upset No. 3 Frederick 33-8 last week and hosts No. 6 Conifer (9-3) at 2 p.m. Saturday. That winner faces either Silver Creek (9-2) or Pueblo Central (8-3) in the semis.

In the Class 2A semifinals, No. 3 Bayfield (11-0) plays at Platte Valley (9-2) at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
