Bulldogs will play Friday vs. Raptors in 3A football playoffs
Play on Friday, scout on Saturday.
That can be the scenario for the Palisade High School football team in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs, if the Bulldogs get past Silver Creek.
The fourth-seeded Bulldogs (9-1) play No. 13 Silver Creek (7-3) at 7 p.m. Friday at Stocker Stadium.
Mesa State College plays Chadron State on Saturday afternoon at Stocker, which allowed the Bulldogs to move the game to Friday night.
Palisade and No. 1 seed Elizabeth’s game against No. 16 Palmer Ridge are the only two 3A games on Friday night.
The coaching staffs of the winning teams will likely spend Saturday afternoon watching other first-round games in person, including Western Slope Conference champion Glenwood Springs (9-1), which hosts No. 15 Englewood (8-2) at 1 p.m.
In Class 5A, Grand Junction (9-1) has its rematch with Highlands Ranch (8-2) at 7 p.m. Friday at Shea Stadium in Littleton.
The Tigers lost to the Falcons 17-10 in the first game of the season at Stocker Stadium. Grand Junction has won nine straight games since then.
In Class 2A, No. 4 Olathe (8-2) hosts No. 13 Bennett (8-2) at 1 p.m. on Saturday. The Pirates have won at home in the first round of the playoffs the past three seasons.
Three other Class 2A WSC teams qualified for the playoffs and all play at 1 p.m. Saturday.
No. 7 Aspen (8-2) host No. 10 Platte Valley (7-2), No. 12 Basalt (7-3) travels to No. 5 Faith Christian (8-2), and No. 15 Coal Ridge (7-3) plays at No. 2 Kent Denver (8-2).
Paonia’s 48-24 upset of Rye in the first round allows the Eagles (5-5) to host No. 4 Limon (9-1) at 1 p.m. on Saturday in the second round.
Hotchkiss (9-1), the No. 2 seed, plays at No. 7 Lyons (8-2) at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
