SUV ‘drifts’ along Hwy 50, strikes cyclist near Lands End Road
UPDATE 4:30 P.M.: The cyclist, whose name has not been released, died at 4:12 p.m. as a result of injuries sustained from the accident, and a 29-year-old female driver of the Blazer has been taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, according to the Colorado State Patrol.
A cyclist riding near Whitewater Hill along Hwy 50 was allegedly struck by a vehicle and flown from the scene by CareFlight this afternoon, the state patrol reports.
A red Chevrolet Blazer allegedly “drifted” and hit one of two cyclists along the roadway, police said. The condition of the injured cyclist helicoptered from the scene is not immediately known.
The second cyclist was uninjured, according to witnesses.
The collision happened at mile marker 46 of Hwy. 50, about a half-mile east of the Lands End Road turnoff.
