Central Arizona takes over top spot in JUCO poll

Central Arizona College moved up to No. 1 in the National Junior College Athletic Association/Perfect Game USA baseball poll today.

The Vaqueros (46-12), who were ranked second in the previous poll (April 27), play No. 25 Yavapai (Ariz.) College for the Region 1 championship this weekend. The winner advances to the Western District tournament against the Region 9 and Region 18 champions to play for a spot in the Alpine Bank Junior College World Series.

Howard (Texas) College (44-12) moved up one spot to No. 2, but the Hawks face elimination in the Southwestern District tournament and need three wins in the next two days to qualify for the World Series.

Walters State (Tenn.) Community College (41-12) is ranked third, Western Nevada College (44-11) moved up to fourth, Northwest Florida State College (39-14) is fifth and Polk State (Fla.) College (43-11) is sixth.

Grayson County (Texas) College (41-14) is seventh, previous No. 1 Santa Fe (Fla.) College (37-11) dropped to No. 8 after being eliminated in the Gulf District tournament.
