Central’s Vern McGee resigns
Central High School football coach Vern McGee has resigned, effective immediately.
McGee, a Central graduate, has been the head coach at Central for 17 years and was an assistant for six years before that. His 1997 team placed second in Class 4A, losing to Hinkley in the state title game, but this past season, the Warriors were hit hard by injuries and went 0-10.
He will continue his duties as the chairman of Central’s physical education department and assistant baseball coach.
Central Athletic Director Randy Powell said a search for McGee’s replacement will begin immediately.
