Update: Child dies of gunshot wound in Frederick
FREDERICK — A 3-year-old Frederick boy who died from an apparent gunshot wound has been identified.
The Weld County coroner says Sheine Steine died from an accidental gunshot wound to the head on Monday.
Frederick Police Chief Gary Barbour tells KUSA-TV (http://tinyurl.com/kvktjlo ) the boy’s mother, Dione Warren, called 911 and told the operator she believed her child had fallen and struck his head on the bedside table.
Police say no one has been charged or taken into custody. The coroner did not return a call seeking comment on Tuesday.
Authorities are trying to determine how a 3-year-old Frederick boy died on Monday.
A woman called 911 and said that her child had apparently fallen and was bleeding from the head. She also told police the boy was not breathing.
After police and paramedics arrived at the home, police found a gun close to the child.
Frederick Police Chief Gary Barbour says it appeared the gun had been fired.
