About the Erie Tigers

■ Defense has posted shutouts over Mitchell, Berthoud, Mead and Thomas Jefferson.

■ Went on a three-game losing streak in late September and early October.

■ Four running backs have more than 400 yards rushing — Joey Ramey (747), Christian Mickey (630), Pedro Anderson (590) and Ryne Atkins (471).

About the Rifle Bears

■ RB Ryan Moeller is 28th in the nation and third in the state among 11-man teams in rushing yards with 2,202, according to MaxPreps. He is first among the state’s 11-man teams with 11.7 yards per carry. Junior Kellin Leigh has rushed for 847 yards and 10 TDs on 80 carries.

■ Senior QB Adam Rice has completed 27 of 52 passes for 484 yards with eight TDs and one interception.

■ Senior Aaron Wagler tops the Bears’ receivers with 17 catches for 220 yards and four TDs.

■ Closest game was a 21-0 win over Delta.

■ Defense has allowed an average of 3.5 points per game.

About Erie: “They’re tough. They’ll be bigger than us. They’re definitely run-oriented. They’ve had a couple games where they’ve given up a few points, but they have very talented kids, very good athletes and some big kids, so a nice mix.”


No. 9 Palisade (8-2) at No. 8 Roosevelt (6-4)

About the Roosevelt Roughriders

■ Began the season 1-4 before reeling off five consecutive wins over 3A Tri-Valley Conference opponents to win the conference championship.

■ Senior QB Spencer Urban has completed 43 of 96 pass for 786 yards with six TDs and six interceptions. He also has rushed for 356 yards and four TDs.

■ Junior Rany Molinar leads the team in rushing with 511 yards and seven TDs.

■ Senior Mark Rios tops the team with 30 catches for 590 yards and six TDs. No one else on the team has more than four catches.

■ Although averaging only 245 yards of total offense per game, the Roughriders average 31 points per game.

About the Palisade Bulldogs

■ Losses have been to No. 1 seed Rifle, 31-3, and No. 13 seed Delta, 26-21.

■ Senior QB Luke McLean has completed 69 of 120 passes for 1,025 yards, 13 TDs and seven interceptions, and he has rushed for 647 yards and nine TDs.

■ RB Dalton Hannigan has rushed for 1,275 yards on 158 carries, an 8.1 yards-per-carry average, with 16 TDs. Senior Caden Woods follows with 756 yards and six TDs on 117 carries.

■ Junior Levi Hoaglund leads the receiving corps with 22 catches for 315 yards and seven TDs. Woods has 19 catches for 238 yards.

About Roosevelt: “They’re big. They’re physical. They won their conference, and it’s a tough one. They’ve got some good skill athletes, and I’d say their physicality and their size is definitely something that’s going to be tough to handle.”


No. 13 Delta (7-3) at No. 4 The Classical Academy (9-1)

About the Delta Panthers

■ They were boosted in the wildcard points standings with their 26-21 win over No. 9 seed Palisade.

■ Senior QB Mitchell Whiteside has completed 91 of 161 passes for 1,507 yards, 13 TDs and five interceptions. He also has rushed for 345 yards and five TDs.

■ The wide receiver corps is led by senior Chris Black (49 receptions, 920 yards, 8 TDs) and junior Ryan Whiteside (20 receptions, 390 yards, 4 TDs).

■ Senior Zach Decker leads the team in rushing with 795 yards and five TDs on 123 carries and Robert Williams has 387 yards and seven TDs on 71 carries.

About The Classical Academy Titans

■ The 3A Southern Conference champion was 2-8 last season.

■ Did not lose until the final week of the regular season, a 14-3 setback to No. 15 seed Pueblo Central.

■ Led by QB Jantzen Ryals, who has completed 117 of 201 passes for 1,872 yards, 21 TDs and 11 interceptions.

■ Junior Andrew Register leads the team in rushing with 941 yards and seven TDs on 136 carries. He also has 22 catches for 150 yards and a TD.

■ Senior Joey Trese is the leading receiver with 41 catches for 812 yards and nine TDs and senior Alex Willis has 26 catches for 432 and 6 TDs.

Coach Johnson says

About The Classical Academy: “They have big kids. They’re the biggest team we’ve probably seen, including Montrose. They have good skill-position kids, and I think hopefully we can bring over that Western Slope toughness and cause them some trouble.”
