Clifton Walgreens robbed at gunpoint

Mesa County Sheriff’s deputies take pictures at the scene of an armed robbery at the Walgreens in Clifton this morning.

Police were on the lookout Thursday night for a man who was wearing a surgical mask when he robbed a pharmacy at Walgreens in Clifton at gunpoint earlier in the day.

The suspect is described as a white male, 20-24 years old, about 6 feet tall with a thin build. Witnesses told deputies they saw the man riding away from the store on a bicycle, according to the Mesa County Sheriff’s Department.

The man was seen heading west after he left the store at 572 32 Road with an undisclosed amount of prescription narcotics stashed in a red backpack, police said.

Video from the store shows the man wearing a brown or black suede jacket, a light gray sweatshirt, blue jeans, a maroon baseball cap and yellow tennis shoes or hiking boots.

No one was injured in the incident that occurred at about 9:15 a.m., police said.

Students at four schools in the area were told about 9:30 a.m. to lock the school doors from the inside as a safety precaution. The request was lifted about an hour later, according to the Sheriff’s Department.
