Climbing club makes annual trek up Pikes Peak

COLORADO SPRINGS — Members of a Colorado Springs climbing club are making their annual New Year’s hike up Pikes Peak.

They began hiking Monday and plan to reach the summit of the peak Tuesday evening, where they’ll set off fireworks that can be seen along the Front Range and Eastern Plains.

The group is named after its practice of adding a man to its ranks each year —the AdAmAn Club. It was founded in 1922 and members have reached the summit nearly every year since.

Members traditionally set off five fireworks at 9 p.m. in honor of the group’s founders followed by a full display at midnight. They also get to see numerous fireworks displays in the communities below.

The newest member, Nick Baki, told The Gazette that words can’t describe the view.
