CMU women reach regional title game

CANYON, Texas - Led by Sharaya Selsor’s 20 points, the Colorado Mesa women’s basketball team reached the championship game of the South Central Region tournament for the second straight year with a 66-44 victory tonight over Tarleton State University.

Four players reached double figures for the Mavericks (30-1), who shot 45 percent from the field. Aubry Boehme had 15 points, Hannah Pollart 12 and Christen Lopez 10. Mesa forced 20 Tarleton State turnovers and raced to a 14-7 lead. Mesa’s defense kept Kiara Wright relatively in check, allowing the talented senior forward to score only 14 points.

The Mavericks dominated the boards, with Pollart leading the way with 12 of Mesa’s 35 rebounds.

Colorado Mesa, the second seed in the tournament, plays either West Texas A&M or St. Mary’s University at 6 p.m. (MDT) on Monday.
