Colo. man accused of leaving child in van

BRECKENRIDGE — A Silverthorne man is suspected of leaving a child in a van for at least two hours during a frigid day in Breckenridge.

Police say Michael Sanchez faces a misdemeanor charge of child abuse with no injury and is expected in court today.

The Summit Daily News reports that a woman going to a bank saw a girl in a van in a parking lot Thursday afternoon. The woman called police 15 minutes later when she saw the child was still there.

The temperature at the time was 18 degrees. The child was wearing a winter coat.

Police say they arrested Sanchez when he returned to the van more than an hour-and-a-half later. It’s wasn’t immediately known how old the girl is.

A telephone number listed for Sanchez has been disconnected.
