Colorado man sentenced for taking rock from BLM land

DENVER – A Colorado Springs man has been sentenced to six months in prison for illegally selling moss rock taken from public land.

Federal prosecutors said Thursday that 28-year-old Robert “Larry” Caskey also was sentenced to pay $2,200 in restitution to the federal government. He has until Wednesday to report to prison.

Caskey was charged after a member of the public reported spotting him removing moss rock from public land in 2010. Moss rock can be worth up to $300 a ton commercially.

Caskey pleaded guilty this summer to illegal theft of government property and to damaging and removing government property without authorization.
