Colorado Mesa defeats Adams State in home finale
Colorado Mesa returned an interception for a touchdown to defeat Adams State College 20-13 in the Mavericks home finale at Stocker Stadium. It was Mesa’s first home win of the season.
Redshirt freshman Travis McRae intercepted Adams State quarterback Trevor Eggleston and returned it 30 yards for a touchdown with 2:04 left in the game to seal the victory.
The Mavericks (4-6, 3-5 RMAC) built a 7-0 lead on Steve Romero’s 1-yard touchdown pass to Austin Rodriguez in the first quarter.
Adams State (5-5, 3-5 RMAC) rallied to take a 10-7 lead before halftime on Terjean Saffold’s 3-yard run.
Mesa regained the lead when Romero hit Zach Adair for a 9-yard touchdown with 2:02 left in the third quarter.
The victory was Mesa’s first victory over Adams State since the 2007 season.
