Colorado Mesa holds on for road victory

Colorado Mesa’s defense made a goal-line stand in the final seconds to defeat New Mexico Highlands 22-17 in Las Vegas, N.M.

The Mavericks (3-2, 2-1 RMAC) allowed more than 600 yards in total offense, including 439 in the air, but made plays when needed for the victory.

The defense limited Highlands to two touchdowns and forced two turnovers, including an interception in the end zone with 1:43 left in the first half. The Mavericks turned the interception into a touchdown when Jason Haferman completed a 44-yard pass to DJ Hubbard with 34 seconds left and a 19-10 halftime lead.

CMU running back Jake Cimolino rushed for 74 yards and a touchdown.
