Colorado Mesa persevers to upset Metro

DENVER — Colorado Mesa outscored Metro State 7-3 in overtime to upset the No. 15 team in the country 67-63 in the first round of the RMAC tournament at Auraria Events Center.

Mike Melillo led the Mavericks with 21 points and eight rebounds, including a steal and layup in overtime to give Mesa the lead for good. Jeff Hart scored 12, Michael Bear and Colton Burgon added 10 each.

The Mavericks (15-12) did it despite turning the ball over 25 times.
