Colorado Springs marks opening of London Olympics

COLORADO SPRINGS — Colorado Springs is holding its own events to mark the opening of the London Olympics.

The community has been the hometown of the United States Olympic Committee since 1978.

Events on Friday include a torch-lighting ceremony that coincides with the lighting of the Olympic torch in London. The torch is being lit by 1992 Olympic figure skating champion Kristi Yamaguchi and her husband, Olympic ice hockey player Bret Hedican. The pair met at the Olympic Winter Games.
