Construction to close Buckeye Res.
Buckeye Reservoir and Recreation Area, a popular camping and fishing destination west of Paradox, will be closed this summer as the area undergoes major improvements.
A spokesperson for the Manti-LaSal National Forest said campsites will be reconstructed, a boat ramp built, new toilet facilities installed, and roads improved.
Also, ponderosa pines in the area will be thinned to reduce the threat of wildfire.
“While the closure will be an inconvenience this summer, the work being done will increase the quality of the recreation experience at Buckeye Reservoir in years to come,” said Brian Murdock, recreation manager for the Moab-Monticello Ranger District.
Murdock said that once work is completed around the reservoir, boat traffic on the reservoir will be limited to 5-horsepower motors or less.
This is aimed at reducing the danger associated with large powerboats operating on a small reservoir that often is crowded with small fishing boats and swimmers.
