Cops: Car theft suspect left fast-food receipt in stolen vehicle

Auto theft suspect, caught on surveillance video at the Taco Bell in Clifton.

A fast-food restaurant receipt left in a car stolen either Sunday or Monday from the Clifton Park-N-Ride has led investigators with the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office to circulate surveillance images of a possible suspect.

The stolen vehicle — a 1988 Buick LeSabre believed taken from the west Park-N-Ride lot at 3235 I-70B Frontage Rd. — turned up abandoned on the side of the road at the Colorado/Kansas state line, the MCSO said. Inside the car, deputies found a receipt from the Taco Bell restaurant in Clifton believed to belong to the suspect.

He is described as a man with a goatee wearing a hat, glasses, a white shirt and a jacket. The time on the video of the suspect making the purchase at the Taco Bell matches with the time stamp on a receipt found in the recovered vehicle, according to investigators.

Anyone who recognizes the suspect, or has information about the crime, is asked to contact the MCSO at 242-6707 or Crime Stoppers at 241-7867. Information reported to Crime Stoppers that leads to an arrest can earn anonymous tipsters up to a $1,000 cash reward.
