Cops: Man threatened to shoot St. Mary’s staff

A Clifton man was arrested this afternoon after authorities said he threatened to shoot staff at St. Mary’s Hospital.

Eddie Ellis, 44, was arrested on suspicion of obstructing emergency medical services, harassment and prohibited use of a firearm after two handguns were found concealed in the front seat of his vehicle in the parking lot of Community Hospital, Grand Junction police said.

Ellis first became angry with St. Mary’s staff because of the care his son was receiving, and at one point threatened to retrieve a gun and shoot staffers, according to police. Officers were called just after 4 p.m.

Initial police radio reports indicated a man was upset because one patient got to see doctors ahead of the man’s waiting son.

Ellis was contacted by police exiting his vehicle and about to enter Community Hospital’s public emergency room entrance. Ellis had an empty gun holster strapped to his belt, while a subsequent search of his vehicle revealed the two firearms.
