Crews battle wildfire in Moffat County
MAYBELL — Crews are battling a wildfire in northwest Colorado that has grown quickly after being sparked by lightning.
The fire was about 10 acres when first reported 10 miles north of Maybell in Moffatt County Wednesday afternoon. The U.S. Bureau of Land Management said Thursday the fire has since spread to 6,500 acres, or about 10 square miles.
The fire is 80 percent contained.
The BLM says crews were able to keep a ranch house from burning. BLM spokeswoman Lynn Barclay says there was a report of one outbuilding having burned, but that hasn’t been confirmed.
Barclay says no other buildings were threatened Wednesday night.
Area fire departments are working with federal agencies to battle the fire.
