Crews battling 70-acre wildfire in W. Colorado

GRAND JUNCTION — About 120 firefighters are battling a 70-acre wildfire burning near ranch buildings and oil and gas wells in western Colorado.

Federal land mangers say the fire 25 miles northwest of Grand Junction wasn’t an immediate threat today to the well pads or buildings. Federal officials say lightning started the fire Thursday and winds quickly spread the flames among the pinon-juniper trees.

The U.S. Bureau of Land Management says warmer, drier weather in the area has increased the fire danger.
