Driver killed in crash with Montrose County dump truck

The Colorado State Patrol is investigating a fatal two-vehicle accident this morning south of Montrose involving a county-owned dump truck.

A Montrose man was driving south on South Highway 550 in a Ford F250 pickup truck when he crashed into the rear of a Montrose County dump truck, which had slowed to turn left on Racine Road, Trooper Nate Reid said. The crash was reported at 7:52 a.m. The pickup driver’s name was being withheld pending notification of family, Reid said.

The dump truck driver, Jack Veete, 46, of Delta, was treated and released with minor injuries.

It’s unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor, Reid said.

The crash remained under investigation as of noon and no citations had been issued.
