CU student pleads guilty in raccoon killing

BOULDER — A University of Colorado student who killed a raccoon with a bat has been given a minimum three-month deferred sentence after pleading guilty to Boulder municipal charges.

Jace Griffiths pleaded guilty Monday to subjecting the animal to unnecessary suffering, illegal killing of wild animals and littering.

The Boulder Daily Camera reports Griffiths was also ordered to undergo a psychological evaluation before he reports back to court at the end of the three months.

Griffiths was arrested in November after he told police he killed a raccoon with a bat so he could take its hide.
