Death of infant girl investigated

A Mesa County sheriff’s deputy carries items to a patrol car at a fourplex on White Avenue in Clifton, where officers responded Sunday morning to a report that a 1-year-old girl was unconscious and not breathing.

Sheriff’s investigators awaited a report from the Mesa County Coroner’s Office on the death of an infant Sunday in Clifton.

The Mesa County Sheriff’s Department responded at 7:30 a.m. to a report that a 1-year-old girl was unconscious and not breathing inside a unit at a fourplex at 3233 White Ave, according to sheriff’s spokeswoman Mary Gonzales. Gonzales said she did not know whether the child was dead when law enforcement officers arrived at the residence.

Investigators gathered items from inside, but Gonzales could not say whether foul play was suspected in the girl’s death.
