Palisade winemaker Brad Webb, a Democrat, has officially entered the race for House District 54.

That seat currently is held by Rep. Jared Wright, R-Fruita, who is facing a GOP primary challenger from another Palisade resident, J.J. Fletcher.

Webb, 37, describes himself as a conservative Democrat who doesn’t agree with some of the recent actions that his fellow party members did during this year’s session, including limiting gun magazines to 15 rounds and a measure to require rural electric associations to increase the amount of renewable energy they generate.

Webb said he wants to bring a farmer’s voice to the statehouse, something he said is lacking, particularly within his own party.

A former Denver banker, Webb came to the Grand Valley in 2009 when he and his wife, and her parents, purchased Mesa Park Vineyards on East Orchard Mesa.
