Denver police discourage marathon race backpacks

DENVER — Denver-area police agencies are telling spectators attending the Colfax Marathon this weekend to leave their bags and backpacks at home.

The request Thursday comes at a time when large race organizers across the country are setting up extra security measures in the wake of the Boston marathon bombings.

Security will also be increased at the Bolder Boulder, including bag checks at Folsom Field, for the Memorial Day race.
