Deputy involved-shooting victim identified

The Montrose County Sheriff’s Department confirmed today that some of its deputies were involved in a shooting during a traffic stop Thursday in the western portion of Montrose County.

The stop occurred at approximately 9 a.m. on Colorado Highway 145. Tryllen Richards, 32, of Naturita, was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction to be treated for a single gunshot wound suffered during the traffic stop, according to a press release sent by the sheriff’s department Friday afternoon. Richards was an occupant in the vehicle stopped by deputies.

Ashley Ware, 25, and Mechelle Lee, 33, also occupants in the vehicle, were arrested on warrants during the traffic stop.
