District E school board candidate leaves race

The race for school board in District E has two contenders remaining after a third candidate dropped out.

Amber Sigler of Palisade said she discontinued her bid two weeks ago after attending meetings became too time-consuming.

“It was not what I expected it to be. It was more political than I was happy with,” she said. “I missed a lot of time with my son going to meetings.”

The decision to drop out won’t signal the end of Sigler’s volunteer work in School District 51, she said. She plans to attend parent-teacher association meetings and volunteer at her son’s school, Taylor Elementary School.

District E represents parts of Clifton, East Orchard Mesa and Palisade. The two candidates remaining in the district are from Palisade: Rose Femia Pugliese, an attorney, and Greg Mikolai, who works for Rocky Mountain PBS.

Incumbents Harry Butler and Leslie Kiesler are running unopposed in Districts C and D, respectively.

The election will take place by mail-in ballot through Nov. 3.
