Driver killed in Hwy. 141 accident ID’d

The Mesa County Coroner has identified the man killed in a one-car rollover along Hwy. 141 as 84-year-old Richard Lee “Red” Stephenson of Whitewater.

Stephenson’s 2005 Chevrolet Impala went off the road near mile marker 143 on Monday evening. The driver’s son discovered the wreck on Tuesday morning.

The coroner reports that the cause of death was hypothermia, due to the accident. Stephenson was ejected from the car after it rolled down an embankment. He was not wearing a seat belt and speed is considered a factor in the crash.
