Drunken driver guilty in crash that killed 1, injured 3 other people
A drunken driver in a crash last year that killed a 28-year-old woman and sent three children to the hospital with serious injuries pleaded guilty Thursday to four felony counts stemming from the accident.
Brandon Walton, 26, of Grand Junction, could face a minimum of eight years in prison or a community corrections sentence.
On the night of Oct. 18, Walton’s Ford F-150 pickup plowed into a Nissan at the intersection of 30 and D 1/2 Roads, killing the Nissan’s driver, Ashley Chapman. Walton told police he had been drinking alcohol earlier that day while watching a football game.
Walton pleaded guilty Thursday to vehicular homicide and three counts of child abuse causing serious bodily injury, all felonies. He also pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
The three children in Chapman’s vehicle were under age 11.
Walton will be sentenced June 8.
