Eight injured when bus wrecks east of Carbondale

Eight people were injured Saturday evening when a Roaring Fork Transportation Authority bus wrecked on Colorado Highway 82 east of Carbondale.

Trooper Nate Reid of the Colorado State Patrol said two people suffered serious injuries, and six people moderate ones, in the accident, in which the bus rolled onto its side. He said he believed they all were taken to Valley View Hospital in Glenwood Springs.

All were occupants of the bus, and no other vehicles were involved. Reid said between 11 and 15 people had been on the bus when the accident occurred at mile marker 16 around 7 p.m.

It initially closed the highway in both directions, although only westbound lanes remained closed as of just before 10 p.m.

Reid said he didn’t have immediate information on the accident’s cause.
