Elbert County man files federal lawsuit over public records dispute

DENVER — An Elbert County man has filed a federal lawsuit after county commissioners sought a restraining order in a dispute over public records.

Don Pippin says the commission violated his First Amendment rights when officials objected to him taking pictures of security cameras outside a county building. A judge refused to issue a restraining order. The lawsuit was filed on Monday.

According to the Denver Post, Pippin submitted an open-records request in January after hearing that some county employees may have been paid improperly.
