Elderly man’s body found after fire at home

An elderly man’s burned body was found inside a Grand Junction home this morning after authorities were called to a report of a fire at the home.

The man, who hasn’t been identified by authorities, was found dead at 2616 Elm Ave., shortly after Grand Junction firefighters were called there around 9 a.m., fire department spokesman Mike Page said.

The man had been using an oxygen tank, Page said.

It wasn’t immediately clear if the man died as a result of the small fire, which Page said was out by the time firefighters arrived at the home and appeared to have been limited to an area inside the home.

An investigator with the Mesa County Coroner’s office remained at the scene several hours after the initial report.
