First-ever Paonia Film Festival seeks entries

The early bird deadline for submissions to the inaugural Paonia Film Festival is Jan. 1.

The film festival is set for March 26.

The festival “is seeking creative, original film projects set in or using the Western Colorado landscape to tell your story,” according to http://www.paoniafilmfestival.com.

Films need to be 30 minutes or less in length. Categories are animation, student, nature, comedy, children, food, drama, music, documentary, work in progress and other.

The early bird entry fee is $10.

The late deadline is Feb. 11 and has an entry fee of $20.

Creative Avenues’ holiday activity program keeps kids busy

If the kids are going stir-crazy while on winter break, take them to Creative Avenues, 128 S. Fifth Street, for the Holiday School’s Out Activity Program going on Monday through Thursday, Dec. 20–23 and Dec. 27–30, and Monday, Jan. 3.

The traditional activity program will be in session, with full and half-day options.

The Art Center curator offers lecture series

Camille Silverman, curator at The Art Center, will be giving a four-part lecture series “covering the expansive universe of the visual arts.”

“The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly” will be offered every other Wednesday from 5:30–7 p.m. beginning Jan. 12.

The deadline to sign up for the series is Jan. 4. Cost is $50 for Art Center members and $90 for nonmembers. Scholarships are available.

The series will cover painting, installation, sculpture, photography, performance and video.
