Events in eight cities to focus on immigration

In an effort to raise awareness about immigration issues, events are planned in Grand Junction and seven other cities in Colorado next week.

Called the Welcoming Colorado Initiative, the event is designed to “encourage immigrant and nonimmigrant communities to engage in respectful dialogue, share experiences and correct misinformation.”

Organizers plan to do that through community discussions, film screenings and public receptions.

Glenwood Springs’ event will take place at 6 p.m. Monday in Centennial Park, Ninth Street and Grand Ave.

Grand Junction residents can attend presentations at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Mesa County Libraries’ central branch, 530 Grand Ave.

Other events are scheduled in Aspen, Vail, Boulder, Longmont, Denver and Aurora.
