Explosives found by hiker linked to Forest Service, Garco Sheriff says

Explosives discovered Monday by a hiker close to the Jess Weaver Trail, which is near No Name, were apparently left behind by the U.S. Forest Service, the Garfield County Sheriff’s Department said today.

Investigation showed the explosives, just under two pounds, had been abandoned by a Forest Service crew that was clearing rocks and trees in late August, the agency said. No criminal charges are expected.

A group of deputies, accompanied by the Grand Junction Bomb Squad, went to the area Wednesday morning and removed the items.
