Falling water levels force closure of boat ramp at Blue Mesa

The National Park Service announced this morning that low water levels at Blue Mesa Reservoir will cause the closure of boat ramp at the Ponderosa Campground today at 4:30 p.m.
Blue Mesa Reservoir was reported Monday to be 50 feet below full pool.
“Boater safety and prevention of damage are of utmost concern to us,” said Curecanti National Recreation Area superintendent Connie Rudd.
Reservoir levels have been dropping at a rate of approximately one foot every four days. At this rate of decline, Rudd said it is probable the boat ramp at Stevens Creek also will close this week.
Boaters still can lunch at the Elk Creek, Iola and Lake Fork marinas.
Information is available at the Curecanti website, http://www.nps.gov/cure.
