Father held in overdose death of tot daughter
A Clifton man was arrested Wednesday in connection with the death of his 18-month-old daughter earlier this month.
Manuel Angel Rivera, 30, 3233 White Ave., Unit 4, was booked into Mesa County Jail on suspicion of a single count of child abuse resulting in death and two counts of possession of a controlled substance. All are felonies. He also could face a misdemeanor count of possession of a controlled substance.
The Mesa County Coroner’s Office determined Rivera’s daughter, Analeisa, died as a result of Oxycodone intoxication. Oxycodone is a painkiller. Coroner’s officials ruled her manner of death as undetermined.
Mesa County Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman Heather Benjamin declined to say whether the toddler was given Oxycodone or accidentally ingested it. She said that information is contained in Rivera’s arrest affidavit, which is sealed.
Deputies were called to the Rivera home on the morning of March 6 after Analeisa was found unconscious and not breathing.
Rivera is being held without bond pending his first court appearance this afternoon.
