Colorado not a ‘Race to the Top’ winner
DENVER — Colorado has lost out again in the race to win federal “Race to the Top” education grants.
The U.S. Department of Education said today that nine other states and the District of Columbia won the second round. With the exception of Hawaii, all the winning states are in the East.
The Colorado Board of Education recently approved new academic standards to compete for the federal funding. Colorado lawmakers also passed a controversial law to tie job protections for teachers to how well their students are performing.
The other winning states are Florida, Georgia, Massachusetts, Maryland, New York, North Carolina, Ohio and Rhode Island.
