Fire burning at power plant in Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS — Some residents near a power plant in Colorado Springs are leaving their homes because of a large fire at the plant.

The Colorado Springs Fire Department says voluntary evacuations are in effect for areas around the plant. It was not immediately clear what danger exists to the surrounding community.

The Gazette reports that firefighters believe that all employees have left Martin Drake Power Plant. The three-alarm fire has caused several power outages in the area.
