Fire damages downtown home

Grand Junction firefighters are urging residents to be cautious with the dry conditions in the Grand Valley after a fire caused minor damage to a downtown Grand Junction home Friday night.

Crews were called to 856 Colorado Ave., a two-story, multifamily dwelling, just before 8 p.m. and found fire on the bottom side of the front porch and smoke in the home. They quickly extinguished the fire on the porch and searched the home for further fire and smoke, according to a news release.

All occupants of the home evacuated safely and nobody was injured. Damage was estimated at less than $1,000.

No cause for the fire was immediately identified.
