Fire damages Redlands home

The Grand Junction Fire Department said damage was estimated around $120,000 after an early morning fire in the basement of a Ridges home.

Firefighters were called at 2:15 a.m. to a single-family home at 382 Hill View Dr. after a smoke detector had alerted a family inside the home to smoke from the basement level. The family and a dog safely exited the home, but a cat remained unaccounted for, the fire department said.

Western Colorado Red Cross will assist the family with temporary housing and other needs.

The cause remains under investigation.
