Fire on Reeder Mesa Road spreads quickly

A home near mile-marker three on Reeder Mesa Road in Whitewater is safe tonight, but a fire behind the home claimed two sheds, a horse trailer and a pick-up truck, according to Lands End Assistant Fire Chief Daniel Barker.

Barker was on scene Sunday battling the blaze amidst high winds. Lands End Fire Protection District firefighters, including the two owners of the property where the fire took place, responded to the fire before it could spread to the home and other structures on the piece of land. Wind fanning the flames was blowing in the opposite direction of the home on the property.

Four horses scurried around the property as fire trucks hurried in and out of the scene Sunday. The burned structures were a total loss.
