Flood advisory out for southwestern Mesa County

Southwestern Mesa County is under a small stream flood advisory under 5 p.m. today, as thunderstorms packing heavy rain are moving over the region.

At 1:51 p.m., radar indicated rainfall moving across the area, with some places receiving an estimated 0.5 inches to more than an inch of rain since 12:30 p.m., according to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction.

Forecasters say runoff will cause minor flooding to occur, especially along small streams and near low water crossings. Minor flooding is expected over Gateway and areas south of Glade Park, according to the Weather Service.

After receiving a healthy dose of precipitation Thursday evening, Grand Junction has a 40 percent chance of rain this afternoon and this evening. There’s also a chance of rain each day during the weekend.
