Flood-damaged Boulder roads off-limits to bikes
LONGMONT — Boulder County is stepping up pleas to cyclists to stay off flood-damaged mountain roads.
The Longmont Times-Call reports that county transportation director George Gerstle has temporarily closed several flood-damaged mountain roads to cycling. He is alos asking cyclists to limit their bike riding on other roads in the mountains.
Gerstle and Boulder County Sheriff Joe Pelle already had asked motorists, cyclists and hikers to avoid recreational trips through many of the areas west of the foothills.
Gerstle said mountain roads can be unsafe while repair work continues. He cited construction equipment and steep drop-offs in washed-out ditches. Gerstle also said there’s debris on mountain roadways from recurring rock slides.
