Forecasters warn of freeze overnight

Western Colorado farmers and orchardists may be up late again tonight trying to protect their crops and trees, as a freeze warning is in effect for several areas.

A freeze warning is in effect from midnight until 10 a.m. for the Grand Valley and Interstate 70 corridor to Silt, the U.S. Highway 50 corridor to Montrose, the Colorado Highway 92 corridor to Hotchkiss, the Paradox Valley and the lower Dolores River. The National Weather Service says the coldest temperatures are expected between 5 and 7 a.m., with temperatures dropping into the upper 20s. Widespread frost is possible and may damage buds on blossoming trees and plants.

The forecast low for Grand Junction tonight is 31 degrees.
