Forest lands closed near slide area
Grand Mesa National Forest officials today closed forest lands in the area of the landslide east of Collbran, citing dangerous conditions.
The closure area includes forest west of the East Salt Creek Drainage, north and northwest of the Salt Creek ATV Trail No. 514 for a distance of approximately 2 miles, north of the Anderson Brothers Reservoir Ditch to Grove Creek, east of Grove Creek to the forest boundary and then east and south of the forest boundary back to the East Salt Creek Drainage.
The slide area remains unstable, Forest Supervisor Scott Armentrout said.
“The surrounding national forest lands remain snow-covered in places with saturated soils and the potential for additional slide activity warrants the closure.”
